A New Year’s Prayer from Psalm 139

O Lord, as this year makes way for another,
I thank you for examining my heart and knowing everything about me.
You have known when I sit down or stand up this past year.
In this new year, I trust you to watch over me.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
May my thoughts be pleasing and honouring to you.
You have seen me when I travel and when I rest at home.
Thank you, Lord for your protection and mercy this past year.
You are my Protector, and I trust in your mercy for all that is to come.
You know everything I do.
May all I do reflect your love in the coming year.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.
May my words be seasoned with your grace.
You go before me and follow me.
Please continue to teach me your ways and guide me in every season.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Thank you for the many ways you have provided this year!
I remember your many blessings to me with wonder and gratitude.
I trust you as my Provider who gives good gifts to his children,
And I look for your hand to bless me in the coming year.
Thank you that however difficult this past year has been,
I never escaped from your Spirit!
I never got away from your presence!
Even in the deepest depths and darkest night,
Your hand has guided me, and your strength has supported me.
Light up any darkness that lurks as I enter the new year.
Shine your presence and brighten the path ahead,
That I may know your presence with me always.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up, you are still with me!
Search me, O God, and know my heart as I contemplate the coming year.
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you.
And lead me along the path of everlasting life.
I commit this new year into your loving hands. Amen.

Whatever awaits 2020, God is right there waiting for us!
God bless you with a happy New Year!
