I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.(1 Timothy 1:1-4 NLT)
Peace be with you from a beautiful and gently sunny Kangaroo Ground morning.
Things are bubbling along here at SIL Australia, fresh coffee is nearby and ready. Quite a few of us are tired and feeling more stretched with each day. Everything has been moving and changing so quickly, and although we haven’t had a chance to put together our monthly newsletter yet, we want to take a moment to encourage you in the midst of this pandemic because you our on our hearts and in our prayers.
During last night’s SIL Global Staff Meeting via video, one idea that rang through clearly to us is that we as a global community, in partnership, and as individuals, need to continue to pray and work and live within the confines of our new reality. There is excitement in that, because God is opening unexpected doors (which we will share with you in the near future), but there is also profound discomfort as we mourn the ‘normal’ that we have lost, and face uncertainty about the future.
We don’t know about you, but our current reality tends to ‘colour’ our thoughts and heart, and so even routine work is not the same as it was before.
A dear colleague shared a marvellous interview with N.T. Wright with us, and so we’re sharing it with you. We’ve just taken some time out to listen to it, and we found it powerful, profound, and live-giving. When you get a chance, you can listen to it here: NT Wright’s response to Coronavirus
We’re also sharing with you a link to an article at Christianity Today which lists some great prayer points for this time. It can be hard to know how to pray at a time like this, and this article points us towards a fuller, broader, and deeper prayer for this world that God loves and its people. You can access that resource here: Prayer points from Christinaity Today
May you experience God’s presence, comfort, peace, and grace in your day today, and may you be an encouragement to those around you – even if they are at a distance.
Feel free to pass along to us resources that you have found encouraging.
